With goals from Morata and Sancet, La Roja handed Scotland their first defeat in European qualifying. The Iberians also handed the Scots their first defeat of the tournament. After a goalless first half, although with the home side coming closer, the second half was a rollercoaster of emotions. Despite the disadvantage, Scotland did not give up and searched hard for an equaliser. But, after a sequence of misfortunes, La Roja's second fell to seal the game. After a slip by Aaron Hickey, Joselu, who came on a minute earlier, recovered the ball on the right flank and sent in a low cross. Oihan Sancet, also a second-half substitute and a debutant with the senior team, was undeterred by the sweeping challenge and sent the ball into the back of the net.

Robertson's injury

The bad news for Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp was that captain Andy Robertson was forced off with a shoulder injury. According to journalist Ian Doyle, Andy Robertson potentially facing spell on sidelines after suffering a shoulder injury that has forced him off playing for Scotland in Spain this evening. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be less than impressed. There is still no official word on the injury but he will be a doubt for the match against Everton next week as he is expected to be out for at least ten days.
