Liverpool are preparing to make a big move in the transfer market after an average season and having identified their main problem in midfield. The English club are close to completing the transfer of Alexis Mac Allister for a fee in the region of €70m as they look to strengthen their midfield before the market officially opens.
The Argentine player has been given the go-ahead to undergo a medical at Anfield, and this is expected to precede in the coming days. Mac Allister's arrival marks the first step in Liverpool's rebuilding plan, and they have already identified two other targets to bolster their midfield, reports the Daily Mail.
In addition to the poor performances shown by this season's squad, the departures of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have left a significant void in the squad, forcing manager Jürgen Klopp to look for new options in the transfer market.
The German coach has been spending time and effort in the search for suitable candidates. Talks have already begun with Borussia Mönchengladbach to sign Manu Koné, who has also attracted interest from other top clubs. The same goes for Khephren Thuram, for whom negotiations have also started with Nice.
