Ahead of the weekend's clash against Southampton, our head coach Jürgen Klopp spoke to the media where he not only talked about the game, but also reacted to a reporter's questioning of the words of Manchester United's arch-rivals legend Gary Neville, where he criticised one of the team's stars and Klopp's management of the club's terrible start to the season.

To Neville's words, Klopp defended Alexander-Arnold and highlighted his individual and collective achievements. "I heard Gary Neville said something (about Trent). But he's now 24 and won quite a few finals, important games where you have to defend against world class players. He was always there, defending well. I don't know why we have this discussion," said the former Borussia Dortmund coach.

Despite Liverpool's victory, Kloop is concerned that for this reason, he will have to make a decision

Liverpool's humiliating win over Southampton at Anfield
Trent Alexander-Arnold was recently called up by manager Gareth Southgate for his second World Cup. The Red's defender played four years ago at Russia 2018 with the national team where he made one appearance in the Group Stage; defeat to Belgium (0-1). Today he returns to the big stage, with a vengeance to fight for a starting place on the right flank where he is dangerous in attack and solid in defence.

At 24 years of age, the Englishman has been an important part of Liverpool's fresh golden era, winning major domestic, European and even world titles. Despite his position Trent can boast that he has scored three goals for the Red's this term; Community Shield (Manchester City), Premier League (Bournemouth) and Champions League (Rangers).

Kloop sends message to Neville

Alexander-Arnold came through the Liverpool youth ranks in 2014, where he played in the youth team until becoming a first-team regular in 2018 under Klopp, who in several interviews has highlighted the West Derby-born player's pace and involvement. Prior to his consolidation in the first team Trent played in domestic cups, where he got the necessary spotlight to be taken into account and promoted.
