A thrilling English derby between Liverpool and Manchester United at Anfield left Jürgen Klopp's side off the top of the Premier League, allowing Mikel Arteta's Arsenal to take the lead after a convincing win over Brighton. In a game full of expectations, Liverpool and Manchester United failed to pull away from each other and settled for a goalless draw in the 17th round of the Premier League. Despite the home side's best efforts, Erik ten Hag's Red Devils withstood constant attacks to earn a valuable point at Anfield.

The outcome of the derby favoured Arsenal, who had earlier secured a crucial 2-0 win over Brighton in London. Gabriel Jesus' header and Havertz's second-half strike secured all three points for the Gunners, catapulting them to the top of the Premier League table.

With the win, Arsenal now have 39 points, leading the table with 12 wins, three draws and two defeats. Liverpool drop to second place with 11 wins, 5 draws and one defeat, level on points with Aston Villa. Manchester City are in fourth place with 34 points, consolidating their position in the Champions League qualification zone.

Darwin in trouble

Liverpool's Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez is in a goal drought, having failed to score in his last seven Premier League games. His last contribution in the net came on 29 October in a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Anfield. The fans and coaching staff will be hoping Nunez can rediscover his goalscoring instincts in the coming games to strengthen Liverpool's attack in the Premier League title race. This will mean that Jurgen Klopp will now turn to Cody Gakpo for Wednesday's game against West Ham to add variety to the attack.
