The Liverpool manager spoke about the comparison between the Dutch striker and the Colombian.

Boosted by the regular performance in the Premier League, and partly by the injuries of Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, Liverpool went to the market to reinforce their attack and got one of the revelations of the Qatar World Cup. Ahead of Manchester United, Klopp's side signed Netherlands star Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.

Shortly after his arrival was confirmed, reports emerged from England of a possible "battle for the job" between Diaz and Gakpo. However, despite the fact that the Colombian will be absent for several months due to a relapse in his knee injury, the German coach stated that the Dutch player did not arrive on time to replace him, as they had already planned to bring him in.

With that in mind, Igor Biscan, a former Croatian player who played for Liverpool, expects both to be important to Klopp for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign. The Netherlands attacker is yet to make his debut in English football.

"(Gakpo) is someone who comes full of desire to achieve something special and usually that makes everyone else raise their game. And then when you look at the return of Luis Diaz, the two of them could have a big impact for Liverpool this season," Biscan was quoted as saying by Ladbrokes: Fanzone.

It is worth remembering that the former Croatian defender played five years for the Reds, from 2000 to 2005. During that time he won six titles, including a UEFA Champions League, and made more than 110 appearances. Diaz, meanwhile, will be out until March. He has already missed the resumption of competitive action after the World Cup and according to the calendar, he will also miss the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Real Madrid, among other games against big English teams such as Chelsea and Manchester United.
