Despite retiring as a professional in 2017 with Major League Soccer (MLS) side Galaxy, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard continues to be the subject of debate on social media. Now a Talk Sports post has sparked controversy among netizens after "Stevie G" was compared to Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyune.

For Liverpool FC tweeters, it is unheard of and offensive to compare everything Gerrard did as a professional, his talent as a player and even his quality as a human being. Fans defend their captain as one of the greatest players in world history, and believe De Bruyne is not even close to the Premier League's Aston Villa manager.

The publication made a few days ago on Twitter, says that at his best, who would you choose, the Belgian or the Englishman, going by the numbers De Bruyne is better than Gerrard, but in quality and legacy, there is no comparison. For example, the 2004-2005 season, where Gerrard led Liverpool to win their fifth UEFA Champions League, a trophy they had been denied for 20 years.

Below the tweet you can read responses in favour of Gerrard, pointing out that he created a top team, while De Bruyne is part of one, "Stevie G. played in average Liverpool teams, making them great, won trophies on his own, while KDB has played in a "Rolls Royce" team. I couldn't see him winning games on his own if 7 or 8 of the team he played in were average," Twitter users point out.

Steven Gerrard is currently manager of Aston Villa, but prior to arriving at Villa Park, the Liverpool legend began his career in 2017 as a manager at Anfield, where he managed youth teams, before making the leap to his first experience in Scotland, taking the reins at Rangers Glasgow, a team that returned him to the top with an unbeaten 102-point season and championship in 2021.
