Surprisingly, Welsh striker Gareth Bale announced his retirement from football at the age of 33, this after playing for Wales at the World Cup in Qatar where he scored a goal in the draw against the United States. This announcement has rocked football around the world due to the transcendence he achieved especially in his first stage with Real Madrid.

Through his social networks, Bale explained his reasons for leaving football, among which he explained that he came to this conclusion after discussing it with his family. Just a few months ago he was crowned MLS champion with Los Angeles FC after scoring a goal in the final against Philadelphia Union, which went to penalties.

Bale has played in the Premier League since 2005 when he made his debut for Southampton. He was then transferred to Tottenham in 2007 and in 2013 he took the momentous step in his career when he was signed by Real Madrid. There he achieved transcendence by being part of the five Champions League titles won by the Spaniards in the last decade.

Gareth Bale accepted in several interviews that football did not arouse his passion and the sport he really liked was golf. In fact, in his second spell with Real Madrid, he spent more time on the green than on the football pitch. The same was the case in his 2022 stint with the American team where he played just 13 games and scored on three occasions.

Karius' mistake

In the 2018 Champions League final in Kiev, the careers of two players were marked forever. Bale's was for his stunning bicycle kick and the goal he scored by capitalising on a mistake by goalkeeper Loris Karius. The other was the German goalkeeper who was playing for the Reds at the time. Now, after learning of Bale's retirement, several images of Karius' supposed reaction have circulated on social media.
