Since the paths of Belgian striker Divock Origi and Liverpool parted ways things have not gone well for either side. The striker has not found his best form away from Anfield and since joining Milan he has not been able to show all his qualities. While the Reds are in need of goals and a striker who can fight in the box to support Egyptian star Mohamed Salah who is also struggling for form.
Origi spent seven years at Liverpool during which time he played some 200 games and scored more than 40 goals, but he never managed to convince German manager Jurgen Klopp that he could be a regular starter, so when his contract with the Reds expired in the summer he left the club and joined Milan on a free transfer looking for a new place to shine at the age of 27, but the series has been more complicated than he expected.
"Let him call me when he wants to," Jürgen Klopp challenges
Salah in poor form but could break new record
"There is no doubt who has been the worst signing of the season in Serie A: Divock Origi," said Italian journalist Alvise Cagnazzo. One of the critical voices pointing directly at the Belgian, whose adaptation to Pioli's schemes has been frankly complicated and who has been relegated to a very secondary role in the Scudetto champions: he has only played 80 minutes in four official matches and has not scored a single goal.
Divock Origi left Liverpool this summer as a free agent. The 27-year-old Belgian striker thus brought to an end an eight-season spell with the Reds in which he scored 41 goals in 175 appearances. The most famous of all, the one that put Tottenham in the 2019 Champions League final.
Origi arrived at Anfield as a big project for the future in 2014 from Lille. He was called up for the World Cup in Brazil with Belgium at just 19 years of age and showed promise, but never quite fulfilled his promise. After eight seasons in the Premier League, he left for Milan this summer in the hope of finally being a regular in the line-up... but nothing like that so far. Rather, he has been a disappointment.
