The German coach has devised a strategy for Sunday's game against Manchester City

Goalscoring machine Erling Haaland makes his Anfield debut. Liverpool host reigning champions Manchester City on Sunday in a duel between the two biggest contenders from last season, a dampener this term due to the Reds' inconsistent form. With just ten games played, 10th-placed Liverpool are 13 points behind second-placed City and 14 points behind leaders Arsenal, a gap that looks set to be a decisive factor in their Premier League title challenge, although the Reds have a game in hand on their rivals.

With a weak defence and a number of injuries, Liverpool will need to find a way to contain Haaland, who was rested in the Champions League this week in his side's goalless draw in Copenhagen. In 10 Premier League games, Norway's Haaland has scored 15 goals, a record unheard of in the competition. The Reds come into the English derby of recent years on the back of a 7-1 win over Rangers in Scotland in the Champions League to take an important step towards progressing to the last 16.

Their strikers were in fine fettle, with Roberto Firmino scoring twice, Darwin Nunez grabbing a goal and Mohamed Salah scoring the fastest hat-trick in the history of the competition with three goals in six minutes. Jürgen Klopp praised his side's performance and particularly that of Mohamed Salah in Liverpool's 7-1 win over Rangers. The manager spoke at a press conference and detailed his feelings after a big win.

We had a really positive half-time talk. We wanted more in the second half. Clearly, it worked. Today's game was special, particularly Mo. It was very important how we adapted to the positions, to the line-up," the coach said. Everyone who started tonight played very well. Fabio and Harvey, very good. That's the best we could have asked for. I'm very happy,' the coach added after finishing second behind Napoli with nine points in Group A.

Klopp confident Salah to face City

I really think the first half set up what came in the second half. When we play like that, we can be a very good football team. We built on the good things from the first half, kept them moving and obviously they had to change in midfield,' he detailed regarding the team's play. Finally, he concluded: 'The goals we scored were exceptional. It's a night where things went our way. It definitely changes the mood, and that's good. We all know who is coming on Sunday (Manchester City). That will be different, but it's better to go in with the feeling of tonight'.
