Jürgen Klopp explodes after being fined for sending off against Manchester City

After his sending-off in the win over Manchester City, it was predictable that Jürgen Klopp could receive a commensurate sanction, but the Football Association only issued him with a financial warning and he escaped suspension and will be able to sit on the Liverpool bench. The Reds boss was at the centre of an outburst in his side's Premier League win at Anfield on 16 October for gesturing towards assistant referee Gary Beswick as Mohamed Salah's goal gave them all three points over the Citizens.

Klopp subsequently apologised for his actions and accepted the Football Association's initial charge, for which he has now served his punishment. As a result, the German will be able to continue alongside his side on the sidelines for Saturday's clash with Leeds. "Jürgen Klopp has been fined £30,000 for breaching FA Rule E3 during Liverpool's Premier League match against Manchester City on Sunday 16 October 2022," explains a statement issued by the FA on the matter.

It continued: "The manager accepted that his behaviour during the 86th minute was inappropriate, and an independent regulatory committee imposed the sanction during a hearing. The manager's attitude accompanied the decision to be lenient. "This sanction is subject to appeal by Jürgen Klopp or the FA upon receipt of written reasons from the independent regulatory commission," the publication concluded. Klopp will therefore only have to pay the fine and avoid the same reaction.

Klopp was fined £45,000 (now $52,000) after accepting an FA charge for questioning the integrity of referee Kevin Friend in a 1-1 draw with West Ham. Four years ago, Klopp was fined 8,000 pounds ($9,260) and warned about a future misconduct offence after running onto the pitch to celebrate with goalkeeper Alisson Becker after Divock Origi scored the winning goal in the Merseyside derby in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
