Liverpool's match against Aston Villa ended in a 3-0 victory in our favor. A resounding victory that leaves us in a good position at the start of the Premier League season during the first international break. It was also the first time this season that we managed to keep a clean sheet, despite the absence of our two first-choice defenders.
One of the big concerns among Liverpool fans was that on the last day of the transfer window we failed to sign a new central defender, which had been reported as one of Jürgen Klopp's main objectives, especially with Virgil van Dijk suspended and Ibrahima Konaté out through injury.
However, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip responded excellently in the game against Aston Villa, especially Gomez who had an excellent game that has earned him praise from fans who hope the 24-year-old defender can return to his best this season. In addition, being a player who already knows what it means to succeed with our club, Joe Gomez has gradually become a respected voice in the dressing room and after the victory over Aston Villa at Anfield, he spoke about the reinforcements brought in by the management.
Speaking about Liverpool's summer signings and departures, Joes Gomez assured that despite the many departures, the new players have adapted very well to the team. "There has been a lot of change this year with personnel, but the boys that have come in [are] unbelievable and showed their ability (...) It's a breath of fresh air as well to see the boys settle so quickly and do what they do and express themselves. Like I say, it's just the start, we have to keep progressing" he said.
