Every mid and early season is the perfect time for players to move on in their professional careers, with this upcoming transfer window being the perfect time for Liverpool to repatriate former players and current legends, such as Sadio Mané. To make such moves, the Red's must make space and part with current stars.
Thirty-six-year-old James Milner is in his eighth season as a Pool player. The Leeds United youth product arrived at Anfield in 2015 from Manchester City and has since helped the club to multiple domestic and international honours in a variety of positions, including central defence, full-back, midfield and midfield. Milner's contract expires in the summer of 2023.

At the start of the 22/23 season Milner was unsure whether he would remain at the Merseyside club, as after the final whistle of the Champions League final at the Parc des Princes, France, Milner's contract had been dissolved and after a meeting with Klopp and the board, the Englishman reportedly accepted the new terms and conditions of his contract, which extended his stay for a further year.
Milner revealed that this season was going to be a very special one for him. "An overriding feeling for me, and vitally important in the process, was the belief that I can still contribute to the team. The manager was clear in his mind and that was an important factor in me extending my contract," said the midfielder, who is in his final months on Merseyside.
Milner's departure will open up space for moves, with fans reportedly calling for the return of Senegalese superstar Sadio Mané, who is struggling in Germany after the knee injury that caused him to miss the World Cup with Senegal. The Anfield stands are still chanting Mané's name, months after his departure.
