The German coach of the Reds made an analysis of what has been the participation of the Uruguayan with the team

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp spoke at a press conference on Monday about the situation of Darwin Núñez, who has not had a dream start to his Premier League season. The German coach said the Uruguayan is "still adapting", as is to be expected. Liverpool are struggling at the start of the Premier League. In the last round of fixtures, it was Brighton who cast doubts over Klopp's side. Despite coming from 2-0 down in the opening 20 minutes, the Reds were unable to take all three points.

Things are not going the way the German manager would like them to, and that includes the performance of Darwin Nunez, the club's star signing last summer (he arrived at Anfield for 100 million). Against Brighton, the Uruguayan was left on the bench for most of the game and it wasn't until the 89th minute that Klopp brought him on. "When new players come in, everyone talks about them and wants them to shine straight away. That only happens every now and then and sometimes it doesn't happen," he said.

He also said he had a long chat with the player on Sunday along with assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders, who speaks Spanish and Portuguese and acted as interpreter. "We told him that we are completely calm. In the situation we are in, it's very important that he doesn't look worried or anything like that. Against Brighton, he didn't start because he had just come from playing with the Uruguayan national team and was carrying a load on his hamstring. When we were told that, the medical department told us how many minutes he could play, and it was between 15 and 20, so he wasn't going to start," he said.

Klopp also said that "clearly the three-match suspension didn't help him settle, but that's about it" in that regard. At the same time, he argued that because "the team is not flying, that doesn't make it easy for the strikers," especially the playmakers. "We create chances, but it's not as if everything is going smoothly and we put on a scorer and he defines the situations. That's not our situation at the moment, as much as I would like it to be," he added.

Klopp asks for patience with Darwin Núñez

We have to be patient with Darwin, he is just adapting," Klopp argued after the game when asked about the player's situation. "We told him we are completely calm with him. It's very important for us that Darwin doesn't worry," added the German coach. After suffering a defeat to Napoli (4-1) in the opening game of the Champions League, Liverpool showed an early reaction and passed by Ajax (2-1) in the last round. Now the focus is to continue accumulating wins to try to fight for first place in group A, which has Napoli with 100% record so far.
