Egyptian shone in Sunday's win over Manchester City at Anfield

Mohamed Salah resurfaced and left Liverpool alive after he ended their Premier League goal drought on Sunday by scoring the only goal in a five-game win over Manchester City. It was a historic strike for the Egyptian, who overtook idol Steven Gerrard to become the Reds' new second-highest scorer in English competition with 121 goals, now trailing Robbie Fowler, who has 128.

Salah now has three goals in nine Premier League appearances and has scored at least 19 in English competition in each of his five seasons in a Liverpool shirt, suggesting the all-time record will most likely be his. In fact, he finished the 2017/2018 campaign with 32 goals, his highest tally of any player in Premiership history. He even surpassed Gerrard has fewer 300 appearances than the former Reds captain.

In his 189th game for Liverpool, Salah also added to his goalscoring streak against Manchester City. According to Opta data, he has been involved in 14 goals in all competitions, with nine goals and five assists. Salah also became only the second Liverpool player to score in four consecutive home games against Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League, after Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink between 2000 and 2004. But all this was also on top of Alisson's landmark assist for the Egyptian's right-footed shot. It was his third assist and he became the goalkeeper with the most assists in the history of the English competition.

Mohamed Salah scored the winner as the Reds thrilled their fans at Anfield Stadium. Salah had a great chance to score early in the second half, but his shot was kept out by goalkeeper Ederson. However, in the 76th minute he got his revenge after a fantastic ball control after a long pass from Alisson Becker.

Salah outpaced an opponent and on the edge of the visitors' box, left-footed the ball beyond Ederson's reach. It was an important goal that ultimately proved to be the winner for Jürgen Klopp's side, who were sent off. It should be noted that the 'Pharaoh' now has three goals in the English competition. Liverpool's three points could mean a revival in the fight for the 2022-23 Premier League title.
