With morale high after the comeback in Scotland against Rangers FC in the Champions League, Liverpool are looking to keep their momentum going with another win against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City at Anfield Road. It won't be an easy game as, unlike the Reds, the Citizens are fighting for top spot in the Premier League, while the Pool are looking to climb the table.
That game in Glasgow meant a lot to England's Harvey Elliott, who was able to score his second goal of the campaign for the Reds, with his first goal of the campaign coming against AFC Bournemouth and now scoring the final goal in the 7-1 thrashing of Rangers. The Fulham FC youth product revealed he had mixed feelings as he believed the VAR would overturn his Champions League goal.
Jürgen Klopp fails Liverpool fans after broken promise
The worst news Jürgen Klopp could have received, a signing he had in hand fell through
"I was upset and I wasn't upset at the same time, obviously having to wait is not the best feeling in the world. I had Mo Salah in the background whispering in my ear, 'It's a goal, it's a goal!' but you know, I was thinking, 'Don't celebrate too early, don't celebrate too early,' until finally the VAR confirmed the facts," the 19-year-old striker revealed.
Having the support of such iconic players and soon-to-be Liverpool legends as Salah makes Elliott feel a sense of security now that the England Under-21 international is experimenting with a new position on the pitch. The former Blackburn man switched from central attacking midfielder to right-sided attacking midfielder, which Klopp ordered when he sent him into the starting line-up.
"To be honest, I think finishing it off and getting the seventh for us was the icing on the cake. To be able to celebrate with the fans was too, and yes, it wasn't how I wanted it, because I wanted to do it after scoring, but those minutes of VAR confirmation made it a partial celebration. I thank the club and my teammates for all their support. Especially Mo Salah who showed me all his confidence," he said.
