A Liverpool legend revealed his two candidates to win the World Cup in Qatar 2022 World Cup calls are events that every footballer has as a dream to fulfil in his career. That was the wish of Ian Rush, the former Welsh footballer who shone for Liverpool and became their top scorer with 346 goals. In a recent interview, the former player said how much he wished he could have gone to a World Cup with Wales and also spoke about his favourite teams in the tournament.

When asked about his favourites and their prospects for this edition of the World Cup, Ian Rush mentioned that he sees "very strong" Brazil and Argentina: the winning teams of the Copa America 2021. While the "Albiceleste" lifted the cup at the Maracana, the "Verdeamarela" finished runners-up. In his predictions he left out England, who have Jude Bellingham as one of their stars, a possible Liverpool signing.

Brazil. But the former footballer gave his preferred point of view for the runners-up of this tournament, because in the Brazilian national team there are several Liverpool players. Rush also mentioned that if he had been the coach of "La Canarinha", he would have called Firmino to play this World Cup in Qatar 2022 because he is a great player.

Argentina. And regarding Argentina, the former England striker and goalscorer mentioned as a virtue of the team the fact of having Messi among its members. But when asked if football "owes" a World Cup to the Paris Saint-Germain player, Ian replied that "titles are either won or not won".

But the 61-year-old star said he believes Messi "can do what Maradona did in '86". What the Welsh star was referring to is the fact that the Argentina captain can "lead a good team, but be the absolute reference". With the loss to Saudi Arabia, Argentina have now lost six times as they open their World Cup campaign. Here we review the previous ones. The reputation of a team like Argentina - with two world championships and the pride of having had some of the greatest players of all time - might suggest that they have had few stumbles in their opening World Cup matches. Nothing could be further from the truth.
