The joy of his return was short-lived, less than a week. Luis Diaz returned to training with Liverpool in Dubai, but a few sessions later he had to return to England after suffering a relapse of the knee injury he sustained in October, which kept him out of action until the break for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
"What is not right is that we have to see with Lucho. He felt something and we need further evaluation," Jürgen Klopp commented on the Colombian's physical problem that leaves him out of the friendlies against Lyon and Milan on 11 and 16 December, which serve as preparation for the second half of the campaign.
The coaches at Liverpool were undoubtedly impressed by Harvey Davies today
Although the results of the tests carried out on the winger in Liverpool have not been released, the English press are already talking about the possible date of his return and the concern that his absence could extend for several more months.
Liverpool Echo reported that Diaz could undergo surgery for this injury relapse and, if so, would return in March. "It is understood the club are still awaiting an official result from his check-ups, but are likely to be preparing for a second significant lay-off of their winger's campaign. With Liverpool preparing for a frenetic period that will see him play 11 times in less than two months, Klopp will feel the continued absence of the influential Diaz keenly," the outlet noted.
Injuries have been a problem for the German manager so far this season and have affected the performance and results of the Reds who are sixth in the Premiership and advanced to the last 16 of the Champions League. Official competition returns with a Carabao Cup last-16 tie against Manchester City on 22 December, ahead of Boxing Day (26/12), when the Premier League resumes.
