This summer we were one of the saddest farewells in recent years at Anfield, as after twelve years with Liverpool, Jordan Henderson decided to end his time with the Reds during which he won absolutely every trophy possible at least once and lifted the first Premier League title for Liverpool in 30 years.
Henderson's farewell was undoubtedly a hard blow not only for the Anfield fans but also for Jürgen Klopp and the Liverpool players, because on the one hand and despite the fact that Henderson had not had his best season with the team, Klopp still considered him as an important player and as the first captain of the team. On the other hand, the players lost their leader, who had been at the club for years before most of them came to the team.
There is no doubt in anyone's mind that Jordan Henderson left Anfield as a legend, as he was the leader of one of the best teams Liverpool has ever had and conquered everything possible. However, many still have doubts about the reasons why Jordan Henderson asked to leave the club and Hendo himself, after his debut in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq answered and clarified what was one of his main reasons for accepting the Saudi proposal.
In an interview for the Saudi Pro League, Jordan Henderson revealed that Steven Gerrard, his former teammate and mentor at Liverpool, was one of the reasons why he agreed to join Al-Ettifaq. "Stevie was a big reason obviously why I came, to work with him and play under him," he said.
