Injuries are the imminent decline of one Reds midfielder

Curtis Jones has made more than 70 appearances in all competitions so far in his Liverpool career, but has missed the start of the 2022-23 season due to a stress bone injury, and although he returned to training briefly at the end of last month, he suffered a relapse after two sessions, joining the list of players who must wait for his recovery before returning to training and subsequently fighting for a place in Jurgen Klopp's starting XI.

With the successful recovery of Thiago Alcantara, who proved to be fully fit in their Champions League game against Ajax, the British midfielder has lost ground in the fight to return to the starting line-up, and with the team planning to bring in a star in that sector, Jones could be expected to be relegated to the bench for the remainder of the season, an act that will undoubtedly affect his career.

Injuries to Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at the start of the season meant that the Briton had a golden opportunity to take over the midfield and be one of the men Jurgen Klopp relied on to reinvent the game after the loss of his first-choice players, but the reality was different as he was one of those who also joined the list with an ailing tibia that is slowly improving.

Faced with such misfortune for the England youngster, the former Leeds United goalkeeper spoke of how Jones lost not only his chance of a starting place in the team, but also how this could affect him in a few months when the bombshell signings, players back from injury and those who have rediscovered their best will be his competition for that starting place every week.

The accumulation of failures and bad luck at Liverpool forced both Klopp and his coaching staff to think of new options for the midfield, finding a momentary solution with the arrival of Arthur Melo and the excellent recovery of Alcántara, looking towards the end of the year in men like Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde or Moisés Caicedo, that immediate solution for Anfield to enter fully into the fight for all the titles that are being disputed at the moment, with all those who cannot contribute something to the group commanded by the German coach being relegated.
