Liverpool has been home to some of the world's greatest players, and has elevated many of them to legendary status. In the era of Steven Gerrard, Xabi Alonso and Dirk Kuyt, the Reds were a team that played fantastic football and although for many years titles were hard to come by, it was undoubtedly a generation that marked an era at Anfield.
In that great squad was one of the most lethal strikers in the world, who gave much joy at Anfield and also in his country. He possessed incomparable speed, exquisite finishing and an enormous heart that allowed him to keep running even in the most adverse moments. Although he was never able to win a single title with Liverpool, the fans consider him one of the best strikers to have ever worn the Reds' uniform.
We are talking about Fernando Torres, the Spaniard who in 2007 arrived at Anfield from Atletico Madrid in exchange for 38 million euros and who would spend four years of his career with Liverpool, where he showed his great goal-scoring ability by scoring 81 goals in 142 games. During his time as a Liverpool player, he conquered the world with the Spanish national team, with which he won two European Championships and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
However, years later when he returned to Atletico Madrid, Torres suffered an incident that could have ended his life, as in a La Liga match he collided with a rival defender, falling to the grass unconscious where he had to be helped by his teammates and the club's medical staff. He almost lost his life, but thanks to the quick intervention of those present he was able to continue his career.
After his successful playing career, Fernando Torres dedicated himself to training new players at the Atletico Madrid academy and is currently the coach of the youth team. He also has his own chain of gyms and has shown a great physical change as a result of his new love for gym workouts.
