Sandro Tonali has been one of the great revelations of Italian football in recent times. Since joining Milan on loan in the 2020/2021 season, the 22-year-old midfielder has been improving his numbers and last year he won the Scudetto with the Rossoneri. A year later, in the 2021/2022 season, Stefano Pioli's side decided to keep the player in exchange for 14 million euros and now, as published by the English media Daily Express, the Italian international is one of Jürgen Klopp's main targets to strengthen the midfield after the failed experiment of Arthur Melo.
The Brazilian midfielder, on loan until June 2023 from Juventus, did not make a good start at Liverpool. Shortly after making his debut for Jürgen Klopp's side, reports in England suggested that there had been a disagreement between the coach and the player over his fitness. The German sent him out with the youth team so that he could gradually build up his fitness, but on 8 October he suffered an injury and was sidelined for three to four months.
Relationship severed, Klopp blames FSG for Liverpool's performance
The player who won plaudits at Anfield and loves Liverpool more than anyone else
Liverpool are looking for a replacement and it seems that Sandro Tonali has been chosen by the Liverpool board to strengthen the midfield after the World Cup, the 22-year-old midfielder currently has a market value of 27 million euros according to Transfermarkt.
Sandro Tonali could be the piece that Jürgen Klopp needs to get Liverpool out of their current crisis. Back-to-back defeats to bottom side Nottingham Forest and Leeds United have left a squad that has also failed to finish top of their Champions League group untouched, although it is true that Napoli's level of play in the first three months of the season has been very high.
Liverpool need reinforcements in midfield, Jürgen Klopp did not stop calling for them throughout last summer, but the market did not offer any good opportunities and at the last minute they ended up bringing in Arthur Melo. With the Brazilian injured, it now looks like the Reds will make a big investment in January and Sandro Tonali could swap San Siro for Anfield.
