Liverpool has seen great players pass through its ranks throughout its history, and before the club entered its most recent golden era, we went many years without winning an important trophy and it was not until the arrival of the trident formed by Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino, who became true idols at Anfield, that we were able to conquer European football.
However, before Sadio, Mo and Bobby, there was a trident that thrilled the fans and became one of the most feared in the Premier League, because they had speed, talent and definition, and made Anfield dream of a possible resurgence at continental level. We are talking about Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho, who were shaping up to be one of the most dangerous attacks in the world.
The first to leave was Luis Suarez, who joined Messi and Neymar at FC Barcelona in 2014, and a year later Sterling preferred to earn millions and left for Manchester City, but the Brazilian Coutinho remained loyal to Anfield, which began to win him the hearts of the fans and profiled him to become a legend of the team. However, Coutinho became desperate and when he had become the team's top star he decided to betray Jürgen Klopp and leave for the team that at the time dominated Europe: Barcelona.
But fate put everyone in their place. After his departure from Anfield in 2018, Coutinho lowered his level and injuries did not allow him to reach his full potential, making him one of the most disastrous signings in the history of the Spanish club. Meanwhile, the season in which he decided to leave, our Liverpool won the Champions League.
Philippe Coutinho, who was destined to be one of the great stars of world football, went through Barcelona and then went on loan to Bayern, but he could not consolidate there either. Barcelona did not want him anymore and ended up selling him to Aston Villa for 20 million euros (Coutinho was worth 150 million). Now, the 31-year-old Brazilian player has a contract until 2026 with Aston Villa, but there are those who claim that his team no longer wants him and would like to sell him this summer.
