Following Saturday's results in the Premier League, Liverpool were surprised by the draw between Crystal Palace and Manchester City, taking Pep Guardiola's side further away from the bottom of the table, allowing the Merseyside outfit to better consolidate their overall lead if they can beat the Red Devils at Anfield, a ground they have struggled to win at for several seasons now.

Moments before kick-off against United, the group led by Jürgen Klopp will know what has happened to Arsenal, who are just a point behind them, and if a draw or defeat for the Gunners against Brighton is confirmed, the Reds will have a valuable opportunity to make a clear difference if they can secure victory.

While Liverpool are under pressure to secure top spot, Manchester United will be hoping that Newcastle fail to win and move up to sixth, with Ten Hag's side on the cusp of the European places and Tottenham currently occupying fifth place, which gives them a ticket to the UEFA Europa League.

Clearly the draw at Anfield is a result that does not ultimately benefit either group as the rivals behind them have just one point less than them, with the Red Devils importing a win for Arsenal while Klopp's side will be hoping for an upset of the Seagulls.

Reds must think more about United than top spot

The Merseyside side must know how to correct the mistakes made in their match against Manchester City and now have their minds focused only on the game of the day and not on what happens with the top of the championship, and on that occasion the draw against Guardiola's men meant that neither they nor the Cityzens could get the top, being overtaken by an Arsenals who again want to retake the top spot with a carelessness of the Reds.
