Historically, Liverpool have been an institution of great importance not only for English football but for Europe as a whole, with their tradition, countless achievements and great figures, a place where many would like to be, but just as great players have arrived on Merseyside in recent years, many others were unable to wear the reds due to various problems in negotiations, as happened with the recently retired ex-footballer Gareth Vale.
In the 2005-2006 season, Liverpool's scouts were still on the lookout for their future elite players, and in the match between Bolton Wanderers and Southampton they came across Welshman Gareth Bale, who surprised them with the way he played on the wing, and the Reds put aside their interest in David McGoldrick to focus on their 16-year-old team-mate.

The Athletic at some point revealed that the scouts of the Reds on Merseyside said they were more interested in Bale than David, quickly seeking a negotiation with the Saints for their player, offering them at that time the letter of Darren Potter who was on loan in exchange for the Welshman, with Southampton half accepting the offer as they wanted a monetary income in addition to Potter, a situation that disinterested Liverpool as they were not at that time willing to release cash for a 16 year old.
Over the years Liverpool realised that Darren Potter would never be the incredible player they thought he would be, passing up the opportunity in 2006 to have a great player like Garthe Bale, who excelled during his time in the Premier League with Tottenham, becoming a star with Real Madrid where he would win absolutely everything, even scoring against the Reds in a Champions League final.
With such an aggressive style of play on the wing, the pairing of Mohamed Salah with Gareth Bale would have been complete chaos for any team playing against Liverpool in both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League. Unfortunately the Egyptian and the Welshman's careers have taken very different paths in recent years, with Mo' reaching the peak of his career while Bale was on a downward spiral and heading for retirement after the World Cup in Qatar.
