Frenkie de Jong was one of the protagonists of the last summer transfer window. The Dutch midfielder was close to leaving Barcelona due to interest from Premier League sides Manchester United and Chelsea. However, he stayed at the Catalan club, although in the English league he continues to add suitors.

In an interview for Ziggo Sport, de Jong was very critical of the latest market and the rumours that put him out of Barcelona. "I was calm. I decided in May that I wanted to stay. But then you know the pressure would start to come.... Yes, from the newspapers, from the president.... From everywhere they put pressure on me to leave, in fact. But I wanted to stay at Barça, so it never fazed me," he revealed.

Despite this, Sport newspaper claims that Frenkie de Jong would be "happy to consider a move away" and this is where the Premier League comes in again. But this time, his destination would be Anfield. Liverpool would have the intention to sign him to renew their decimated midfield.

Due to injuries to Arthur Melo, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keïta, Liverpool's midfield has lost names and variants. On top of that, James Milner is out of contract, as are the three names above. That is why Frenkie de Jong appears in the 'red' orbit to be a more than important signing for Jürgen Klopp.

De Jong is the type of player for Liverpool

What would persuade De Jong to join Liverpool rather than Manchester United is that he would be a better fit, as commentator Kevin Campbell said: "De Jong is a brilliant player. I could see him operating in the Liverpool midfield. He is so versatile. Is he a Liverpool type of player? I think he is. He can do that kind of job. He could be an ever-present."
