The FA launched an investigation after flares were thrown during Liverpool's 3-1 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield match on Saturday. Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez gave Liverpool the win at Leicester's King Power Stadium, where red smoke covered the pitch at times.+
"We are aware of incidents during the Community Shield where flares were used in the stands. The use of smoke bombs or pyrotechnics in a football stadium is dangerous, illegal and could have serious consequences," the FA said.
"We can confirm that we are investigating the matter and will work with the relevant authorities, clubs and police to identify the individuals involved and will take appropriate action." "We expect the club will also investigate these incidents and implement the new rules where appropriate."
The FA, Premier League and Football League last week announced tougher sanctions for pitch invasions and the use of smoke bombs and pyrotechnics, and announced automatic club bans for offences.
