One of the most criticised players during England's draw against Ukraine in Saturday's Euro qualifier for next year's European Championship in Germany was Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, who continues to show he is far from being fit enough to play for the national team but enjoys the confidence of manager Gareth Southgate.
The national team struggled in the match in Ukraine and could barely salvage a draw with a goal from Kyle Walker although they came close to losing the game with a few approaches from the Ukrainians but in the end they salvaged a point and England remain at the top of the group with 13 points.
Southgate insisted on fielding veteran players like Jordan Henderson and Maguire himself which was a decision that was criticised on social media lately as both players did not contribute much to the game and even the Manchester United defender showed several doubts and his usual mistakes that he has had throughout his career.
Given Maguire's poor performance, several felt it was a better option to turn to Liverpool defender Joe Gomez, who has performed well at the start of the season. Joe Gomez completed a whopping 72 passes in the first half, the most of anyone on the pitch. He also made 2 interceptions, recovered 5 loose balls and hardly made any mistakes. A very solid performance.
