In the history of the Reds there has only been one Japanese before the arrival of Wataru Endo during the last transfer window, as in 2020 Liverpool signed attacker Takumi Minamino from Austrian club RB Salzburg. However, no one would think that he would arrive to become Premier League champion after 30 years without winning the trophy.
So his time at Anfield was marked by the glory of being crowned champions, although Minamino was not a very outstanding player, so he did not play a very regular role. Despite this, the Japanese, whenever he played for Liverpool, proved to be a dedicated player, leaving everything he had after every game.
In the 2019-20 season, Liverpool finished top of England and were crowned champions. Now history puts another Japanese player at Anfield, and after the last transfer window, the Reds midfield seemed to be very limited, so the reinforcements were in this sector of the field, being Wataru the third reinforcement to arrive. Endo has played a total of 17 games, where he has scored three goals and made one assist, earning the respect of the whole team and the fans.
Wataru has proved to be a great player, running and always helping his teammates, plus the Japanese has a great facility to find his teammates and go out and play. So now Endo will be able to continue with the mark left by his compatriot, as Liverpool are now leaders in England and the team is playing at a high level, so this could be the new Japanese factor that will help Liverpool to be champions again.
Upon his arrival at Liverpool Wataru was welcomed and this has led to Endo developing and adapting to Jürgen Klopp's style of play, so he will have a chance to be a champion and be well remembered at Anfield. His compatriot Minamino may have been a champion, but it was a transfer that did nothing to endear him to the fans who remember Takumi as a failed reinforcement. However, his name remains engraved as one of the champions after 30 years. Endo will now have to maintain his high standards to continue the Japanese legacy at Anfield.
