After the departure of Sadio Mané to German football with Bayern Munich, the image of a top striker was left empty, with the moves of Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez being the ones expected by the board to fill the goalscoring quota left vacant by the Senegalese. As the weeks went by, the Reds realised that these moves were not the right ones.

Regardless of the terrible injury suffered by Guajiro Díaz, which has kept him out of action since October, Darwin has been a player who has not found the net, and he went from being a top player to just another one. The charrúa not only had a bad World Cup, but with The Pool he barely surpassed the 10-goal barrier, his last goal being against Wolves in the FA Cup.

Ahead of this weekend's Premier League Round 24 game against Newcastle, Liverpool legend Jaime Carragher spoke about what could be The Pool's second consecutive win. The former player commented that he sees Nunez as someone who could do more damage down the flanks, rather than up front as he has been playing.

Liverpool legend calls for greater commitment from Nunez

"Could it actually be what we've seen [vs Everton], where Nunez finds himself on the left a lot more and Gakpo actually plays in that hole? His main strength, when I've watched him in these first few weeks, is actually with the ball," the SKY Sports commentator mentioned. With his recent goal, Gakpo made his debut as a goalscorer, so Carragher believes it would be good for the Dutchman to start as the man to watch.
