It wasn't all good during the game against the Citizens at Anfield on Sunday

Liverpool FC's narrow home win over Manchester City came at a cost, as a chilling action in the closing stages of the game silenced Anfield, which saw a superstar go down on the pitch.  The next action was to see the faces of Jürgen Klopp's assistants in the dugout, saying that it could not be possible, adding another injury casualty to the club.

The game was in added time, and with referee Anthony Taylor just moments away from blowing the final whistle, when an unfortunate action saw Diogo Jota ask to be substituted, setting off alarm bells for the Portuguese national team who, just a few weeks before the start of the 22nd World Cup, are praying that this remains a minor scare and that the former Wolves player can return to action as soon as possible.

Incidentally, manager Jürgen Klopp spoke about the situation and ruled Jota out of the Reds' upcoming midweek Premiership game against West Ham United. "When I saw that he went down and there was not much contact, you can see a little bit that someone kicks his foot and maybe the muscle was stretched too much. Hopefully it's not serious. Diogo is an important player for us," he said.

Jota, who also left the game with a caution, had been playing consistently in Klopp's formation, and for this game he started. "Diogo was in real pain at the time, but I have no idea how bad it is until I see the medical assessment. I saw it from the side on the screen, then I paid attention and feared the worst, we will do everything we can to make sure it is not serious," said the German coach.

With no time for regrets, Liverpool will have to turn the page and hope for the best for Diogo. This week they face the Hammers at home and then at the weekend they play at the home of newly promoted Nottingham Forest, who are battling to stay in the Premier League, having taken 23 years to return to the English top flight.
