At last, Uruguay's Darwin Núñez scored again for the Reds after almost four games without doing so, and Jürgen Klopp's worries about the Uruguayan's poor performance in front of goal were calmed for a moment when Núñez found the net again. With a classy strike late in the first half, Darwin levelled the game against Wolverhampton and sparked madness at Anfield.
After the Wolves goal, Liverpool began to grow into the game, having more of the ball and looking for an equaliser, with the 23-year-old Núñez taking advantage of a long pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold a few minutes before the end of the first half that saw the Uruguayan uncovered to give the former SL Benfica man a half-goal, who didn't think twice and drilled the ball past Montenegrin goalkeeper Matija Sarkic.
Saudi Arabia is interested in the star player, and Liverpool are willing to sell him
Klopp's low blow to Chelsea, pre-empts signing of this player
Klopp and the fans thought that in the second half Darwin could explode in attack and that this goal would give him the confidence to look for the second goal in his personal account, but as time went by, Nunez showed that he is still at the same low level he has been at for weeks. The Uruguayan is in the midst of a bad streak that has frustrated him, as in the second half he missed a couple of consecutive plays that could have been the key to winning.
With the arrival of Cody Gakpo, he could take the place in the starting line-up to the Uruguayan and for the fans Gakpo debuted with the right foot, being involved in the plays and with a great projection to the attack, also Nunez has carried in recent weeks with a comparison with the English Andy Carroll in his lack of ability to score goals, to be very physical, but little technical.
Anfield is very demanding, and for some weeks now has put pressure on Klopp to reverse the course with which Liverpool started this season. For example, the fans booed goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who twice made a mistake, which was compounded by Nunez's errors in front of goal. Now the Reds will have to turn the page and think about their next opponents, Brighton.
