The Uruguay and South Korea teams kicked off on Thursday their path to the Qatar 2022 World Cup with an attractive duel in Group H of the tournament that features Uruguayan stars such as Luis Suáerz and Darwin Núñez and Tottenham star Heung-Min Son at the Education City Stadium.

Diego Alonso's side are in third place in the Conmebol qualifiers, making them a dangerous team and one that promises to fight for top spot in the section. For their part, the Koreans do not look like the team that can qualify for the last 16 of the World Cup, but they could surprise the South Americans, as they qualified for the tournament by finishing second in Group A of the Asian qualifiers.

Diego Alonso has had a last-minute change of mind and has tried a formation without Darwin Núñez, leaving Luis Suárez up front. According to several Uruguayan media reports, the coach tried Sergio Rochet in goal; Martín Cáceres, Diego Godín, José María Gimenez and Mathias Olivera in defence; Matias Vecino, Federico Valverde and Rodrigo Bentancur in midfield; and the forwards were Facundo Pellistri, Luis Suárez and alternating Nicolas de la Cruz and Giorgian De Arrascaeta.

The Liverpool striker took part with his teammates in the definition work and at one point he felt pain in one of his ankles. The player was treated by the national team's medical staff and was able to finish the practice. The Liverpool striker had to be treated by doctors in training for an ankle problem.

Darwin missed a clear play

In the end, the Liverpool striker started the Uruguay game and in the 21st minute he had a clear chance. Playing as a centre forward, he received a cross from the right by Manchester United attacker Facundo Pellistri, but failed to connect with the ball inside the box in what could have been his first World Cup goal and which has generated a series of criticisms from Uruguayan fans.
