The Uruguayan told the story of what he has gone through at Liverpool in order to adapt

Darwin Núñez spoke exclusively to ESPN Uruguay about his adaptation to the Premier League and Liverpool, recalling the welcome karaoke he endured in pre-season in front of the Reds squad. The 23-year-old Uruguay striker also spoke about his sending off against Crystal Palace, commented on the virtues of German manager Jürgen Klopp, thanked Mohamed Salah for his support and highlighted the defensive virtues of Dutchman Virgil Van Dijk.

"I've adapted very well, I got off to a good start. Then I had a bad run, where I got sent off against Crystal Palace, it was very bad what I did but it won't happen again, I've learned from my mistakes. The Premier League is a very competitive league, for me it's the best league in the world. Now I hope to pick myself up and move on. Klopp is a coach who is very clear about things, he likes us to press high and also to have the ball, not to be in a hurry to get to the goal. He wants us to press when we lose the ball to get it back as quickly as possible, he's a coach who is very clear about things and is very intelligent.

What song did you choose for the pre-season welcome karaoke? "It was Makano's song. I was very nervous because it was singing in front of everyone. When they said we had to sing I started looking for a song because I don't know any by heart, the only one I know is Makano's, and when it was my turn to sing I put rhythm to it, the Brazilians and Luis Díaz were all together, and I put rhythm to it, and they shook me up. Diaz went to hell with his great enthusiasm, if he wasn't a footballer he could be a singer."

"Salah is an excellent player and an excellent person. When I arrived in pre-season I was talking to him, we had Fabinho as a translator. In those first few games I was very nervous, I had arrived without training and things weren't going my way. Then Mohamed called me to talk to me, he told me that I had to be calm because I was new, that I was adapting to the club. He told me that he went through that moment too, that when he arrived in 2017 he didn't know English, and he told me that I was going to learn it, to be calm now, to do what I did at Benfica, that my potential was important for the team and that I had his backing and that of the captains."

"Van Dijk is a monster, sometimes I stay hot because I can't pass him in training, he puts an arm in and takes me out. He's a very important piece for Liverpool, and he's also a reference, he's always talking to everyone, he's a lot of fun and it's good to have people like that in the dressing room. It's very difficult to beat him one-on-one. I also thank him because when he was interviewed he gave me a thumbs up and said it was very difficult to mark me; I admire him a lot as a player and as a person".
