The Uruguayan is expected to be the star of Saturday's match

Luis Suarez praised Darwin Nunez, who he described as one of the best strikers today, and said of the current Liverpool player: "He has things of me, of Edi Cavani, of Haaland; he's a mixture of everything. The Gremio de Porto Alegre player returned to play for the Uruguayan national team on Tuesday against Bolivia in the sixth round of the qualifiers. El Pistolero came on in the 73rd minute for Núñez and played his 138th game for Uruguay, his first under coach Marcelo Bielsa and his first in all of 2023. "It was something very nice, something very exciting because after the World Cup in Qatar I didn't expect it, I couldn't imagine it," Suárez told the media.

And he said of his more secondary role in this new cycle of the Uruguayan national team: "One has to accept as I accepted when Barcelona told me that I could not continue, or when I accepted the second year at Atletico when I had players ahead of me. "Today I have one of the best strikers in the world in front of me in the national team and what I have to do is enjoy him, try to help him in whatever way I can. All of us Uruguayans have to stand up and applaud him; it's admirable what Darwin is doing in Uruguay and at Liverpool. I feel happy and content to help in whatever way I can," said the 36-year-old.

Suárez remarked that 'if he is not the best, Darwin is one of the best nines in the world' and affirmed that this moment is not hard for him: "On the contrary, I am privileged to be where I am. This moment is enjoyable. Today I have this role because of my age and because Darwin is here. I have to accept that, try to help him because I was his age and I lived the moment he lived, and what we Uruguayans have to do is to applaud him and enjoy his great moment". Incidentally, and when asked if he feels identified with Núñez, the player from Salta said: "We are different. We can't be comparing. Darwin is making his career. I hope he can surpass me in many things".

"Let's enjoy the great Darwin that we are living. He has things from me, from Edi (Cavani), from Haaland, from everyone; he's a mixture of everything. He has a goal, he has commitment to the team, he has sacrifice, and we have to value that," Suárez stressed. Finally, the former Nacional, Groningen, Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid striker reiterated his happiness at returning to play for Uruguay: "It's a nice recognition for the effort, for what you've earned on the pitch with hard work and the performance I'm having at Gremio. "I'm happy more than anything for the moment the national team is going through. There is a generation that is making a big impact on the pitch, and that makes me happy as an Uruguayan fan, as a player and contributing what I can from wherever I can," concluded Suárez.
