Cristiano Ronaldo broke the winter transfer window after signing a contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, which will see him leave top-flight football after just over 20 years of playing in top competitions. With the Arabian bombshell, CR7 also shot himself in the foot, after the Portuguese's 2015 statement that he would never play outside Europe was recovered.

Ronaldo pointed out that he was always going to play on the Old Continent because he wanted to stay at the "highest level" for dignity. "In my mind, I want to finish (his career) at the highest level, I want to finish with dignity at a good club. That means I don't see myself in the United States, Qatar or Dubai," he said.

The clause that would allow Cristiano Ronaldo to leave Arabia for Anfield, Klopp surprised

Following the transfer announcement, it emerged that Cristiano will earn around 200 million euros per season with the Arab club, with whom he is tied until 2025. Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Al Nassr was announced on Friday but by Saturday, just hours later, Abdulmohsen Al Ayyban and his son had already bought the shirt of their favourite Saudi club bearing the name of the Portuguese star, who is already causing a stir in the country.

With an estimated salary of 200 million euros ($214 million) over the two-and-a-half years he has signed with Al Nassr, the 37-year-old is due to be unveiled to his new fans on Thursday in Riyadh, according to a club official who preferred to remain anonymous. The issue is of the utmost importance in a country that suddenly enters the world football map with this spectacular operation.

Cristiano Ronaldo took pressure off Gakpo

Cristiano Ronaldo's move to Al Nassr came just days after Liverpool announced the signing of Dutch striker Cody Gakpo. Until then, he was considered the most important signing of the winter transfer window, something that was to put pressure on the young striker. But now with the spotlight on Ronaldo, Gakpo will be able to play without pressure.
