Cody Gakpo's Premier League debut was not the best

Cody Gakpo's Premier League debut was not the best. The Dutch striker, who became Liverpool's star signing during the winter transfer window after his great World Cup in Qatar, played all 90 minutes in the defeat at Brighton and made little contribution on the pitch. Before that, he had already played minutes in the FA Cup in the draw against Wolverhampton, but he did not stand out either.

Criticism and questioning of the Reds' reinforcement has begun to appear, especially given the need for results that Jürgen Klopp's side have. Former player Robert Earnshaw, who played in the Premiership between 2000 and 2011 for Cardiff City, West Bromwich, Norwich, Derby Country and Nottingham Forest, spoke about the player and said that he does not have the spark that Luis Diaz had in his early days.

"I think Gakpo is a very good player, a very good striker, a very good finisher, but I think he lacks energy, because Liverpool, we always think of them as energy and I think what you're seeing is that Gakpo doesn't bring that energy. When I see Luis Diaz, I think of energy. A nightmare to play against. When I look at Gakpo, I don't see any energy," he said on Sky Sports.

The strikers who could arrive

One of Liverpool's reasons for signing Cody Gakpo is the long-term absence of Luis Diaz, who still has two months on the sidelines following surgery on his knee injury. The Colombian winger has missed 17 games this season and has approximately 10 more to go. The player is progressing in his recovery process. For now, there are rumours of potential strikers such as German winger Moukoko or Frenchman Randall Muani coming to Liverpool, but owners FSG are unlikely to invest.
