While the Pool's last game took some of the pressure off the club, Klopp knows the spotlight is still on the Red's visit to Newcastle, which could be just their third win of the season so far, well below the expectations they set at the start of the season.
With the return of two key players, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota, the competition in attack has increased, and Cody Gakpo, who recently scored his first goal against Everton in the Merseyside Derby, knows this all too well. The Dutchman was back on the scoresheet after a two and a half month drought.
The 23-year-old striker arrived at Anfield after 42 million was paid to Eredivisie side PSV, the only move of the winter for Klopp, who, after failing to sign Jude Bellingham, pinned all his hopes on the Dutch gem who took six games to score his first goal. Under pressure, Gakpo promised to be more involved and help the club win.
"Of course, as a striker, you always want to score and give assists. In the end, though, it's about winning and if that too doesn't work out, then it's tough. I have to be honest; I don't really read it [criticism] I get it of course," commented Gakpo ahead of the clash with the Magpies, who are sitting in the Premier League's top four on the back of a run of form.
