Tuesday's game between Liverpool and Burnley was full of refereeing controversy as the Reds had two goals disallowed and both were full of doubts as the decision of referee Paul Tierney and the bar were not clear enough to be approved and this has generated the annoyance of German manager Jurgen Klopp and legend Jamie Carragher.

Although the Reds took the lead with a goal from Darwin Nunez to break a 12-match scoreless streak, the advantage should have been even greater. In the first half, Dutch striker Cody Gakpo scored but the goal was disallowed due to an alleged foul by the Uruguayan, which the replay showed there was never any contact, making it a clear mistake by the referee.

In the second half there was another controversial play as Harvey Elliott scored what seemed to be the 2-0 in favour of the Reds but the goal was also disallowed due to an alleged advanced position by the Egyptian Pharaoh Mohamed Salah and although in the replay it can be seen that the position of the African is inadequate it should be noted that he never has direct involvement in the play.

Carragher's reaction

This refereeing decision provoked the fury of refereeing legend Jamie Carragher who, via his X social media account, retorted a comment in which he claimed that there had been a clear affectation against Liverpool including several insults to the VAR himself for his erroneous decisions.
