Reds' long-time defender Jamie Carragher believes the Colombian has underperformed in recent games. The last few weeks have not been easy for Luis Diaz in English football. The winger has gone seven games without scoring for Liverpool and in his last outing he was forced off injured with a right knee problem. Diaz last scored for his club on 30 November in a Europe League match in which the Reds beat LASK Linz of Austria 4-0.
In the Premier League, he has failed to hit the back of the net since 5 November in a 1-1 draw with Luton Town. Liverpool legend and sports commentator Jamie Carragher said: "Luis Diaz has simply looked like a shadow of his former self since those knee injuries he picked up last season.
The retired English footballer claimed that Lucho's drop in performance was partly to do with family problems, but also claimed that he has not been at the level he was known to be at in his first few games for the club. "He has to have a great second half of the season or I'm sure Liverpool will be in the market in the summer. With the departure of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, they haven't really replaced them in terms of quality," Carragher said.
Diaz is a doubt for Tuesday's 19th Premier League fixture against Burnley. The Colombian left the field with an injury in last week's 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Anfield. On Saturday, Darwin Nunez was expected to start at left winger, but Klopp surprised by fielding Luis Diaz, who had little influence on the attacking play and instead came off after 65 minutes after suffering severe pain in his left knee.
