Carragher again, now faced with Liverpool's crisis, defended FSG

After the ridiculous display at Wolverhampton, Liverpool have a long week to prepare for the Merseyside Derby and the first leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie against Real Madrid, a game that has a sense of revenge after what happened in Paris a few months ago. In the midst of all this, club legend Jaime Carragher spoke out.

The historic defender came out to defend the Red's business model, which this season has been criticised for falling short of expectations. "You have to look at it properly and say this, for me, is down to the staff and the players and the recruitment team. The reason I go back to the recruitment team is that for the last four or five years, everybody has used Liverpool as a model for everybody to follow," the former player said.

Carragher accepted on SKY Sports that FSG are responsible for all of this, but also that their management has given The Pool some financial breathing space. "Buy cheap sell high. And people say they haven't put enough money in. But what Liverpool have been the best at is actually selling and bringing money in to allow them to go and spend £75million on a centre-back, £60million on a goalkeeper, £50 million on Naby Keita," Jaime pointed out.

<strong>Carragher says owners are not to blame</strong>

The TV commentator also mentioned that Liverpool tried to buy the lad who went to Real Madrid [Aurelien Tchouameni] so there was £60-£70million there for a midfield player, but that cost them in the first game against Fulham, where they belatedly realised their decision. "They couldn't get him and Jurgen Klopp and his staff, or the recruitment team decided 'we don't need to buy a midfielder'. That is on them," said the former Three Lions player.
