Liverpool have decided to sit out the intense competition to sign Joao Palhinha, according to reports in the German media. Despite the 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder's prominence, the Reds have opted not to enter the race for his signature, according to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg.
Palhinha, a highly-rated figure in the Premier League, was on the verge of joining Bayern Munich last summer. However, Fulham's inability to find a replacement in time led to the withdrawal of the deal, leaving Palhinha without the opportunity to join one of the world's top clubs. Bayern have since expressed an interest in reviving the deal in January, while the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked with the talented midfielder.
Despite ongoing speculation about Liverpool's interest in Palhinha, current reports deny their involvement in the transfer battle. Plettenberg stated categorically that Liverpool are "definitely not in the race for João Palhinha" and that he is not a transfer target for the upcoming winter transfer window.
Meanwhile, the coming days are expected to be crucial for Palhinha's future, with several elite clubs expressing interest in signing him in January. Although Bayern remain a suitor, the high price tag associated with the player, approximately €60 million, has cooled their interest. The battle for Joao Palhinha intensifies as we approach the January transfer window, and the crucial days could determine his next destination.
