With negotiations for Romeo Lavia falling through, Liverpool must somehow find a way to strengthen their midfield squad in the coming weeks, and although the first big option for Jurgen Klopp and the board is to revive interest in Moises Caicedo, the distrust of receiving another no for an answer has led the German tactician to focus on what he has at his disposal.

The same analysis has already been carried out by the "ThisIsAnfield" Twitter page, and according to Paul Joyce, Liverpool's refusal to pay £50m for Lavia is said to be due not to a lack of funds but rather that they have a player like Stefan Bajcetic in the squad who is only a year older.

Bajcetic's performances in midfield have already been seen by Klopp last season, and even though Lavia has a slightly longer track record than the Spaniard, the Merseyside institution knows that the money could be used for another investment, leaving young Stefan as one of those players the German manager would bet on for this campaign.

Reds with a last-ditch move

A last-second move could benefit the Reds rather than Chelsea, and with the Blues still undecided on which midfielder to choose, the Reds could go all out to land Caicedo, with a starting berth, exponential growth and an environment suited to his football that would be well supported by former Brighton team-mate Alexis Mac Allister, making his arrival on Merseyside one of the best options for the Ecuadorian.
