Jürgen Klopp has made his intentions clear. He has ruled out the option of turning to the winter transfer window to bolster the squad and solve their injury problems, with the financial aspect being the main reason holding back the operation. The Reds have to contend with the departures of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Virgil Van Dijk, as well as Darwin Nunez and Roberto Firmino, who should not be too serious.

All of this presents a somewhat delicate situation, because we are entering the decisive stretch of the season and there are some important matches on the calendar. The Champions League round of 16 clash with Real Madrid is just around the corner, the first leg at Anfield will be played on 21 February.

Klopp's statement that sends shivers down FSG's spine after Brighton defeat, here's what he'll do

Liverpool in crisis and Carragher's gesture that angered fans

After Saturday's defeat, the image that went around the world was that of German coach Jurgen Klopp apologising to the fans who accompanied the team in this away game that ended with a resounding 3-0 scoreline. Before the match against Brighton where the Reds lost 3-0, Klopp was furious with FSG's under-investment in reinforcements and even ironised about the possibility of signing a new player.

Blow to FSG

"Why do you think we would have a lot of money and not sign players? You know the answer. In a fantasy place you would sign players, but I don't think that's going to happen. It's not like we have so much money that we don't know how to spend it. It's not that easy. We can't solve all the problems in the transfer market," he added emphatically.
