Andersen said he has received between 300 and 400 abusive messages following the incident at Anfield. Andersen also included several examples of the abuse he suffered before ending with a message hoping Instagram and the Premier League can do something about it.
Crystal Palace have spoken to the player to offer their full support and the abuse will be reported to the police, plus a spokesman for Instagram's parent company Meta said the organization is in contact with Andersen's representatives as they are unable to take action until the messages are reported through their tools on the app. "We have strict rules against bullying and harassment and are in direct contact with Joachim's team about the issue," the spokesperson said.
"Because text messages are private spaces, we don't proactively look for hate speech or harassment in the same way we do elsewhere, and we need someone to report the message on the app before we can take action. No one thing will solve this challenge overnight, but we continue to work with industry and government to help keep our community safe from abuse," and media and players have also called for a response from the Premier League.
The Eagles defender was head-butted by Darwin Nunez, who was shown the red card and now faces a three-match ban for violent conduct. Andersen was cautioned, but shared on Instagram a sampling of the hundreds of messages he had received since the encounter.
Nunez was trying to get Liverpool's equaliser against Crystal Palace at Anfield, but he let himself be provoked by his opponent and made it difficult for his team, which was reduced to 10 men. In the 57′ minute, during a dangerous play, Joachim Andersen started to bother the Uruguayan player and pushed him. The recent signing of the squad led by Jurgen Kloop headbutted him. The Aguilas player fell to the turf and the referee saw the action, who gave Nunez a red card.
