It is no secret that Liverpool need to sign at least one defensive midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window, because after the departure of Jordan Henderson, but especially Fabinho, the club was left without a player of high level to fill that role in Jürgen Klopp's team.

That is why, for weeks there have been rumors about players who could be on Jürgen Klopp's radar to reinforce the team. What is certain is that the Anfield board has sought to secure the arrival of players to fill that gap, but so far they have not been able to achieve it and what is worse, in the last two days, the two players who most interested Klopp decided to turn their backs on our team to join Chelsea.

Given this, many names of players who could arrive at Anfield before the European transfer window closes have begun to circulate again. One of the most talked about players, even before the Caicedo-Lavia fiasco, was Joao Palhinha, the 28-year-old Portuguese defensive midfielder who currently plays for Fulham and is valued at 40 million euros according to the Tranfsermarkt portal.

However, Fulham have made it clear that they have no intention of selling him, so they have established a termination clause in his contract, which makes that the only way to sign him. That clause is £60 million and the Anfield board were willing to pay a similar amount for Romeo Lavia, so money would not be the problem as the Daily Mail has reported that Liverpool are aware of these conditions, but perhaps Jürgen Klopp will not agree to his signing.

The reason

Although Joao Palhinha's quality is unquestionable and he would certainly be a good addition to our Liverpool squad, it must be said that he is not the profile of player that Jürgen Klopp is looking for, as he is only one year younger than Fabinho and if you are going to pay such a high amount for a player, you expect that he can be part of a long-term project.
