One of the great "what ifs" in the history of our Liverpool will always be the situation of Philippe Coutinho, who was set to become an absolute legend at Anfield, but who by his own decision left the club and ended up ruining his career because, since he left Liverpool, he never showed again the level that led him to be considered by many as one of the best players in the world.

In 2018, after spending years with Liverpool where titles were elusive to us, Philippe Coutinho decided to leave us to go to FC Barcelona to win trophies, however things did not turn out as he expected since not only the level he showed in Spain was far from expectations and he also suffered with the issue of injuries, but also the same campaign in which he decided to leave us, our Liverpool won the Champions League and began a golden era in which we conquered every possible title.

It is uncertain to say that with Coutinho in the team those titles would have been achieved, because perhaps if it had not been for his departure from the club, other players who became legends such as Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mané, would not have had so much prominence at the club. What is a reality is that the Brazilian will surely regret forever having left us, because he could have been a legend of the greatest team in England and now his present is very little hopeful.

Philippe Coutinho's present

Currently Philippe Coutinho is still "playing" in the Premier League, as he has a contract with Aston Villa until 2026. However, during the summer there has been talk that his team no longer wants him and are looking to sell him. In Aston Villa's 2023-2024 Premier League debut, they were thrashed 5-1 by Newcastle United and despite the team's need for attacking players, manager Unai Emery only gave Coutinho three minutes of playing time.
