An injury-time winner from Japan's Kaoru Mitoma helped Brighton eliminate defending champions Liverpool 2-1 in the last 16 of the FA Cup on Sunday. The Reds continued their sluggish run of form and left Brighton with one of their best chances of finishing the season with a title.
Jurgen Klopp's side took the lead on the half-hour mark through Harvey Elliott's counter-attacking strike, which proved decisive in the 1-0 win over Wolverhampton in the previous round. But before half-time (39), from a poorly cleared corner, Tariq Lamptey's 22-yard volley was deflected in by Lewis Dunk, catching goalkeeper Alisson out.

Just when it looked like the game would end in a draw, after Brazilian Fabinho had escaped a red card for a tackle from behind, the home side's goal arrived. From a free-kick the ball fell to Ecuador's Pervis Estupiñán, who slipped the ball through for Mitoma to control and take out Joe Gomez before slotting home without dropping the ball with the outside of his right foot (90+2).
In a post-match interview, German manager Jurgen Klopp said there would be no more signings in the winter transfer window. However, the new face the team could have in the next few days is striker Roberto Firmino, who could return from injury in two weeks.
