It's January 1st and that means one thing: Trent Alexander-Arnold is free to negotiate his signing with any club, since the Englishman's current contract with the Reds expires on June 30th. Say any club, say Real Madrid.
With the intention of the white team to get the 26-year-old footballer this month 'officially' known, after the British newspaper The Times reported that "Liverpool have today rejected an offer from Real Madrid to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold permanently in January", several footballers have spoken out about the more than possible arrival of the Englishman at the Santiago Bernabéu.
"The most important thing for Liverpool in 2025 is to win the Premier League. Nobody's contract or future should get in the way," wrote the legend Jamie Carragher on his personal X account. Although The Telegraph adds that "Real Madrid are willing to pay 20 million to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in January", the mere departure of the youth player from Anfield has not sat well with the former English player.
Jamie Carragher said: "I love Trent (Alexander-Arnold) as a boy and as a player, but his team would have told Real Madrid to bid and would also have known that Liverpool would reject it. It is to try to cover themselves when he leaves for free. Once again, it is something that the club and the fans do not need when an important game is approaching."
In England they have been taking for granted for some time that Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was destined to be a club legend by recording more than 300 games at just 26 years old, will end up joining the white team sooner rather than later.
Ancelotti: “I don’t want to talk about the transfer market, it’s not the time”
A few days ago, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s gesture in celebration of his first game of the season with the Reds sparked optimism among the English team’s fans. Many understood that this was directed at the media that had reported on the Englishman’s signing for Real Madrid. But, in the words of Michael Owen, “the fact that Real Madrid have made clear their intentions to sign Trent Alexander Arnold leads me to think that it is only a matter of time before he signs for them.”
