Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jude Bellingham for a fee of around $110m plus a variable fee for goals. Borussia Dortmund confirmed the agreement for Bellingham's transfer to Real Madrid on their official website, where they explain that they will sign him with a variable transfer fee over the next six seasons of a maximum of 30% of the transfer price.
Real Madrid have had the 19-year-old's agreement for several weeks and have now taken the final step towards making the England international one of the signings of the summer transfer window. Real Madrid are now ahead of Manchester City (and previously Liverpool) in the race to secure the services of a player considered to be one of the most promising talents in European football.
The race to sign him was a rollercoaster ride as Liverpool were initially the favourites to land him and a few months ago City almost took it for granted that they would take the prize as they did last summer with Erling Haaland. After three years in Germany he has become one of the best players in the Bundesliga, making 31 league appearances this season, scoring eight goals and even captaining the team.
It is striking that while Real Madrid are set to splash out more than 100 million euros, Liverpool have landed a world champion midfielder who also guarantees good performances in midfield for just 35 million euros, which is simply a lesson from German coach Jürgen Klopp to Italian Carlo Ancelotti.
