The Reds face the clash with Brentford with important absentees that could jeopardise a fifth Premier League win in a row

With the arrival of Dutchman Cody Gakpo at Anfield, the new year was starting to look good for Liverpool, until the latest club medical caused head coach Jürgen Klopp huge headaches in putting together his starting XI for the next Premier League clash against Brentford FC. As a result, Klopp will have to scrap for available players as he heads into Matchday 19 in London.

With seven painful absentees, Liverpool will take to the pitch at the Community Stadium to remain in the fight for the top places in the table and thus, to compete in European tournaments in the next campaign. However, the addition of Gakpo could give Klopp some breathing space in attack, as he will be without Portuguese striker Diogo Jota and Colombian Luis Diaz, players who have been ruled out for at least the first two months of 2023.

Brazilian Roberto Firmino was recently added to the list, who aggravated his muscular ailment that he had been carrying for weeks, and which burst in mid-December leaving him in the dark about the recovery time he will have. With this, the German coach will base his attack with Mo Salah and Darwin Nunez as the attacking anchors in the box, supported by Fabio Carvalho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who is playing his last cards at Anfield.

In addition to the attack, the midfield is something that Klopp can't sleep on, with the Brazilian Arthur Melo out for the rest of the season, and his compatriot Fabinho, who is nearing the end of his recovery, are putting the Reds on edge, as in recent days injuries to England's James Milner and Curtis Jones have also been confirmed, who at least won't be in the squad until the end of January.

But it's not all bad news for Klopp, as it was confirmed that Frenchman Ibrahima Konaté is fully ready to challenge for a starting place in The Pool. The Welshman, who was part of the squad that reached the Qatar 2022 final, has overcome the muscular discomfort that has dogged him since the start of the season, and is now an important weapon for the coach to give some breathing space to his centre-backs, Matip and van Dijk.
